Workshops

Here I will discuss the workshops delivered by Liam from bridge to business and what I have learned from them.

Workshop 1

Intro to enterprise

---

Social media & analytics

Workshop 2

Intro to branding

---

Confidence building

Workshop 3

Building connections

---

Wellbeing

Workshop 4

Pitching

---

Running a business

Below I will be briefly discussing the bridge to business workshops and what I learned from each of them However you'll notice that I have listed 4 workshops above with 2 topics in each but have only put 2  workshops below. This is because I only attended the first 2 workshops but the class as a whole were delivered 4.

This does sadden me as the other 4 topics sounded very interesting and I think I would have learned a lot from them but I'm not going to lie when I really have no idea what was discussed during them. I suppose this is a point of reflection.

Next time I should either find a way to attend weather it be in person or on teams or ask someone to take some basic notes for me so that I'm not missing out on some really useful information.

Intro to enterprise

In this first workshop we met with the lovely Liam from bridge to business and he gave a presentation on bridge to business as a whole and how to have an entrepreneurial mindset.

This class was fantastic because he turned it into a class wide discussion and made it really interactive.

Social media and analytics

In the second half of the class we discussed social media and analytics. The class had a discussion about their favourite brands and their target demographics. Like how pretty Little Things target audience is supposed to be 16 - 25 so a lot of their marketing is quite juvenile. We also spoke about how Canon endorses their customers by sharing their images on their social media pages.

Intro to branding

In workshop 2 we went over brands and how they use colour theory, catchy slogans and logos to grab and keep peoples attention as well as how brand preferences are passed down through generations.

We spoke about McDonalds font use and how even if there is no logo you can tell that they are behind the advertisement because they keep consistency across all their branding.

Confidence building

In this class we spoke about the 7 characteristics of confidence, listed in the info graphic on the right. We also did a SWOT analysis of ourselves.

Strengths: Communication, Digital, Problem-solving, leadership

Weaknesses: Timekeeping, Numbers and Finance, Visual, Research

Opportunities: Creating Trello boards, getting a degree, graduating, networking with college students, Growth mindset

Threats: Mental health, Procrastination, Gaming addiction, fixed mindset missing deadlines

Reflection

Experience

I attending the bridge to business work shops, i loved the interactive experience that Liam brought. I also enjoyed that there was two workshops per class. We also participated in group discussions.

Refection

The workshops were very engaging and enjoyable the interactivity of the work shops helped teach me a lot. I felt like i personally gained a lot on the topics as i've never really done this type of thing before. The group discussions were also good because it helped highlight area's of the workshops i didn't fully understand as well as made me feel like i wasn't alone when it comes to not having enterprise experience. Even though i was only there for 2/4 work shops i found them really enjoyable. One thing i do regret is not taking notes during the workshop, the we're quite information packed and it made it difficult remembering the specifics.

Action

I intend to seek out workshops like this again in the future. I will definitely need to start taking more detailed notes during workshops though, it will make it a lot easier to recall what i've learned.
If im not able to find workshops like this in the future i will try and find alternative means to learn more, either from e-classes online or potentially books on the subject.
